In memory of Roq, a person whose journey through life was marked by both adversity and extraordinary empathy. Roq's path was not without its struggles, shaped by a tumultuous upbringing and the subsequent personal battles. He carried the scars of a difficult childhood, growing up with a narcissistic mother who lacked the ability to feel empathy or consider the perspectives of others. In many ways, this environment stunted his growth, yet paradoxically, it also accelerated his development in ways that were truly remarkable.

Roq possessed a depth of intuition and intelligence that left a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. He introduced me to the world of vaporwave, revealing a realm of artistry and creativity that would forever shape my own journey. He was a scholar of internet history and memes.

In a world often marred by indifference, Roq's heart overflowed with compassion. He extended his hand to those who needed it most, often to individuals who would never reciprocate his kindness. I would ask him why he invested so much in people who would never offer him the same kindness, and his response was always the same: "I just feel so bad for them." He prepared meals for those with physical challenges, shared moments of warmth with the disenfranchised, offered unwavering support to the abused, and embraced the awkward and lonely. His humility was extraordinary, his heart, made of gold.

Roq's own struggles with C-PTSD, a result of a lifetime of abuse, were not lost on those who knew him intimately. Yet, in spite of his personal battles, he continued to positively influence the lives of those closest to him. Reflecting on his life now, it's evident that we, his friends, may have misunderstood some of his choices in the past. We wrongly judged him for his unemployment and his decision to consume what we deemed to be "toxic media."

Roq's upbringing, plagued by a narcissistic mother and an unsupportive environment, led to the development of problematic beliefs and behaviors, including racism, transphobia, and misogyny. While these viewpoints cannot be excused, we can acknowledge the impact of his tumultuous past, even as we condemn the harm perpetuated by these beliefs.

In the wake of his passing and the calculated travesty that was his burial, Roq's life takes on a new perspective. He navigated a world marked by abuse, and his journey serves as a reminder that we must identify abuse, recognize toxicity, and work collectively to build a better future. Let us honor Roq's legacy by fostering compassion and understanding in our own lives and in the generations to come.
